Wireless Charger Not Working? Check Power, Phone and Position

If your wireless charger is not working, start with three questions: does this exact phone support wireless charging, is the charger connected to its specified power supply, and is the phone resting on the correct charging area? Check one thing at a time so you can tell which change helped.

Use the charging indication on the phone as your starting point. Decorative lighting, a sound effect or a moving part does not establish that the phone is receiving a charge.

Identify the symptom before changing anything

A charger that never starts and a phone that repeatedly disconnects need different observations. Write down what you see before rearranging the whole setup.

What happensWhat to record first
No charging indication appearsExact phone model, charger model and power accessories
Charging starts, then stopsWhether the phone moved, a notification appeared or a temperature message was shown
A light blinksLight color and pattern, plus the exact charger model
The phone charges but the percentage rises slowlyStarting battery level, elapsed time and what the phone was doing

A flashing light has no universal meaning across brands. Google's Pixel Stand instructions, for example, distinguish patterns by stand generation. Do not apply those codes to a Desk Chargers model or another charger.

Check the phone and power connection

Find the full model name in the phone's settings and check its manufacturer's specifications. A case with a magnetic ring does not add wireless charging to a phone that lacks it. Our phone compatibility guide explains how to make that check without relying on the brand name alone.

Next, compare the charger label or instructions with the power supply you are using. Check that the connections are seated and that the cable is not visibly damaged. Do not substitute an adapter simply because its connector fits.

For Desk Chargers, the two products have different documented inputs: HQ 3.0 specifies 12V DC, while Service Depot has a USB-C input. Those descriptions alone are not a complete replacement-adapter specification. If you cannot confirm the required adapter, ask for the exact requirements before experimenting.

Check placement and accessories

Samsung's wireless charging troubleshooting guide recommends checking the phone's charging contact position and removing obstructing cases or attached accessories. It also warns against placing metal objects or cards between the phone and charger. Its model-specific accessory and fast-charging advice applies to Samsung equipment; it does not certify a different charger.

For a controlled check, keep the approved power connection unchanged. Remove an attached wallet or grip, then position the phone as the charger instructions show. If the phone can be used without its case, compare the same placement with the case removed. Leave it still long enough to see whether the charging indication remains present.

If changing several things at once makes it work, you still will not know which item caused the problem. Restore only one variable at a time when the equipment is behaving normally.

If charging stops after it begins

Look for a repeatable event: picking up the phone to read a message, vibration shifting its position, a case attachment touching the platform, or an on-screen warning. Describe the event rather than assuming the charger is defective.

A temperature warning needs a different response from a placement problem. Follow the phone manufacturer's instructions and use our charging heat checklist. Do not keep restarting a hot or visibly damaged setup to see whether it will eventually charge.

Send support a useful report

If the checks do not resolve the problem, contact Customer Help with:

  • The full phone and charger model names, plus the case and any attachments.
  • A readable photo of the adapter label and an overview of the connections.
  • Whether charging never starts or stops after starting.
  • The exact message or light pattern, and which single-variable checks you tried.

A short video showing placement and the phone's charging indication is more useful than a close-up of decorative lights alone. Keep the unit closed; this checklist does not call for electrical repairs or disassembly.
