Why Is My Wireless Charger So Slow?

Slow wireless charging can come from the phone's supported charging rate, the power supply, placement, a case or the conditions during the charging session. A wattage printed on a charger or module does not tell you how quickly every phone will charge.

First decide whether the phone is charging consistently. If the charging indication repeatedly disappears, start with the not-working checklist. A connection that keeps stopping is a different problem from a steady connection that is slower than you expected.

Know which wattage you are comparing

There are several numbers in a charging setup: the adapter's available output, the charger's required input and the wireless power that a particular phone can receive. They describe different parts of the system.

An adapter with a higher maximum rating does not make an unsupported charging mode available. Similarly, the maximum rating of an internal module is not a measured output figure for a complete assembled product and phone combination. Our wireless charger wattage guide explains the distinctions.

For the two Desk Chargers models, we have not published a verified phone-by-phone charging-speed table. Choose the model for its documented design and features, then confirm compatibility and power requirements. Do not treat a “20W” module description elsewhere as a promise that your phone will receive 20W.

Check the exact combination of equipment

Google's Pixel Stand documentation lists different charging capabilities for different phone and stand combinations. It also identifies battery level, phone capability and case as factors affecting speed. That is a useful example of why a headline number is incomplete; the Pixel Stand's adapter requirements and speed figures do not transfer to another charger.

Check these four items together:

ItemInformation that matters
PhoneFull model name and its supported wireless charging modes
ChargerExact model and documented input requirements
Adapter and cableWhether they meet the charger's instructions
Case and attachmentsExact case, wallet, grip or other item between the phone and charging area

If the power requirements are unclear, ask for them before replacing accessories. A USB-C connector describes the connection, not the complete power specification.

Compare similar sessions

A useful observation is more specific than “it barely charged.” Record the starting and ending battery percentages, elapsed time, phone activity and any warnings. Keep the setup otherwise consistent.

For example, compare two sessions with the same phone, similar starting battery levels, the same approved power accessories and the screen unused. If you are checking a case, change only that case. This is a simple troubleshooting comparison, not a laboratory measurement of watts or a battery-health test.

Use a short log:

Session detailWhat to write down
Starting conditionBattery percentage and whether the phone was already warm
SetupCharger, adapter, cable and case
ActivityScreen unused, navigation, video call or another task
OutcomeTime, ending percentage and any charging interruption

Avoid comparing a quiet session on one day with gaming or video recording on another. The second session asks the phone to do more work while charging.

Google explains that a Pixel phone can reduce charging speed when it detects excessive heat in its temperature guidance. Other phones have their own controls and messages. Follow the guidance for your exact model rather than disabling protective settings to pursue a faster result.

If the phone shows a temperature warning or the equipment appears damaged, stop the comparison and address that problem first. Charging performance should be assessed under ordinary use conditions, without overriding warnings.

Decide what help you need

If charging is steady and meets the documented capability of your phone and charger, a slower result than a different charging system may simply reflect that combination. If it changed suddenly, identify what changed with it: the case, adapter, cable, placement or phone settings.

Send your log and equipment details to Customer Help if the behavior remains unexplained. Clear observations make it easier to separate an expectation mismatch from an accessory or product issue.
